What's a good girl to do when life goes bad?

Tara Lancaster can sing Amazing Grace in three harmonies, two languages, and interpret it for the hearing impaired. She can list the Bible canon backward, forward, and alphabetized. And the only time she ever missed church was at seventeen because she had pneumonia and her mom made her stay home.

But when her life shatters around her and her reputation is left in ruins, Tara decides escape is the only option. She flees halfway across the country to dog-sit, but the quiet anonymity she needs isn't waiting in her sister's house. Instead she finds a knife with a threatening message, a fame-hungry friend, a too-hunky neighbor, and evidence of...a ghost?

Following all the rules has gotten her nowhere. And nothing she learned in Sunday School can tell her where to go from there.

"The Good Girl is at turns scary, funny, passionate and quirky...the perfect book to carry in your beach bag." ~ USA Today

The Good Girl edition by Christy Barritt Religion Spirituality eBooks

I’ll admit it… I let this book sit waiting on my Kindle for way too long before picking it up. Because I’ve always identified myself as a “good girl” like Tara Lancaster, the main character, I’ve been intrigued by her story. I’m so glad I found time to read this great book.

Tara has been a “good girl” her entire life and nothing has panned out like she wanted it to. In fact, her life has fallen apart in a huge, public way. She struggles with feelings of abandonment and disillusionment towards God. Having been in ministry myself for a large portion of my life, I could totally relate to her feelings when things don’t turn out like I plan and I end up hurt and dejected. Little thoughts whisper into my ear just like they did in hers, things like “Isn’t life supposed to be easier because I’m doing what God wants? Isn’t God supposed to bless me more because I “earned” it?” Like Tara, I had to learn that it isn’t about what we do or how good we are. It’s all about Jesus and when we take our eyes off Him and settle our sights on other things, whether it’s becoming the “perfect” Christian or developing our own set of rules, it’s only a matter of time before we slip and fall.

When she runs away to Minnesota to house-sit for her sister, the last thing she expects is to find… something… that obviously doesn’t want her in the house. What follows is a mystery of intrigue, spookiness, and danger as she tries to figure out who or what is haunting her sister’s house. Cooper, the hunky boy-next-door comes to her aid and adds a lovely touch of romance to this story.

It was an easy, quick read and the tension was spread nicely throughout the book. I give this great read 5 stars!

The Good Girl edition by Christy Barritt Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I chose this book because I love all of Christy Barritt's other books. This was certainly a fun and enjoyable pageturner. Tara's struggles with always trying to do the right thing pulled me in. Loved the quirky characters, especially Candy. The mystery kept me guessing and it had a very surprising and satisfying ending. Sure kept me guessing (and I guessed wrong, lol). If you have never read any of Christy's books, I highly recommend them all. If you enjoy a clean mystery with a touch of the romance, you won't be disappointed.
Tara dog sits for her sister in her sister's haunted or is it haunted house. The previous owner of the house was murdered and there are numerous mysterious things taking place during the night or when Tara is gone. There must be a ghost. Cooper, the next door neighbor tries to help with an alarm system. Candy, her sister's friend tries to help. The police are called several times. Nothing seems to get to the bottom of what happened to Danielle. The basic reason Tara came to help out with this dog sitting was that she was accused of having an affair with her student. She had lost her job, her husband, and her reputation. Nothing seems to go right even tho she has turned back to GOD IN Cooper's church, Mercy church. Everything does seem to be going ok, but then her deep dark secret is revealed to everyone , even Cooper who she is falling in love with. She must run away again. The conclusion is exciting! Hard to put the book down. Very good.
So creepy and so good - finally one that had believable characters and more substance and story than just the cheesy hallmark-esk cliche romance portion. Legit wasn’t sure “who did it” and was glad I was reading on a holiday weekend surrounded by family rather than a night home alone. So many good creepy moments without it being so Steven king that it stopped being light and fun. Definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys reading lighthearted, clean “who dun it” style romantic suspense novels.
The Good Girl by Christy Barritt is a mystery story that I couldn’t put down. It’s about a young divorced woman named Tara, who is running from all she has known. She needs time to get away, to start over in a place where no one knows her story. So, she goes to house and dog-sit at her sister’s place while her worldly sister romps in Europe.

Mrs. Barritt’s style is so fun and unmistakable. This is the second book I’ve read, and I love her characters. She always includes the kooky people as well as unfortunate people with real needs. She has a knack for making the craziest real and the real crazy.

I loved this book, mostly because of its message—real Christian faith is better than works faith. And, real faith is borne out with true, compassionate, forgiving works. There are many biblical allusions woven into this excellent story.

The mystery is fun. This is a page-turner. Who is the ghost? Where is Danielle’s body? What’s wrong with the neighbor with the binoculars?

The constantly texting girl with blue hair, the nerdy video man, and the ex-Ranger are just a few of the intriguing characters in this ghost story. I believe you will be entertained and challenged by The Good Girl.
Fun read. At times the main character was a little naive, and I got frustrated with her because she was so wimpy until the end. She continued to stay in the creepy house, but wouldn't investigate when the noises and music started. I wanted to scream at her to go figure it out. Instead, she hid under the covers when the guitar music started. I would've been searching for what was causing all of the noise, but then again I'm probably braver than I am smart.

Despite the frustrations with the heroine, the book is a fun read and at times a little scary, at times a tad cheesy.
Being the good girl isn't always easy. Tara had always been the good girl. A pastor's daughter, she never missed church, was married to a wonderful man, was a teacher and had the picture perfect life. Picture perfect that is until scandal shatters her life and leaves her reputation in ruins. The truth of her innocence doesn't matter. Feeling the only way to repair her unsteady state is to flee, she accepts an offer from her sister to dog-sit for a few weeks on the other side of the country. No sooner does Tara arrive though that unusual happenings begin in the house. A knife, sinister threats and a ghost? Maybe the hunky neighbor will be able to help her solve her mysteries but can he help her heal her heart?
